An IMAP email account is an account that stores messages on the mail server. The advantage to checking emails with IMAP is that you have a central storage for all of your mail and your archives can be checked from any computer with an internet connection. This is beneficial if you are checking from multiple computers or devices (like an iPhone). The main disadvantage of checking email with IMAP is that you are limited to the allocated storage space on the server for that specific email account. If you are checking email from a single computer 90% of the time and/or regularly receive large attachments, you will want to instead set up your mail as a POP account. Instructions for that can be found here. To create and check an IMAP account with the GyazMail application, follow the below instructions:
1. Login to the cPanel for your hosting package, commonly found at http://www.yourdomainname.com/cpanel (yourdomainname.com should be replaced with your actual domain name)
2. Click on the Email Accounts module in cPanel.
3. Scroll down the page until you see a list of your existing email addresses. Click More then Configure Mail Client for the email address you want to setup in the Apple Mail client.
4. On the next screen you will see a list of email programs and methods of checking email. Near the bottom of the page you will see Manual Settings specific to this email address. This will have all of the information you need, less your password.
Note: Please only use the (SSL) Incoming and outgoing server settings listed to the left. The non-SSL settings are not secure and should not be used. |
5. Open GyazMail, go to the GyazMail menu at the top and choose Preferences... Click the Accounts icon and select New...
6. In the window that opens, choose IMAP from the drop down menu and press OK
7. In the Your Name field type your full name.
8. In the E-mail Address field, type your email address.
9. In the Incoming Mail Server field, enter the Incoming Mail Server: (SSL) listed on the Configure Mail Client page in your cPanel.
10. In the Account ID field, enter the Mail Server Username listed on the Configure Mail Client page in your cPanel.
11. In the Password field, type the password that you assigned to this email account.
12. Make sure the Save password box is checked.
13. Under the Outgoing Mail Server section click the Edit button.
14. On the resulting page in the Outgoing Mail Server field, enter the Outgoing Mail Server: (SSL) listed on the Configure Mail Client page in your cPanel.
15. Click the drop down box next to Authentication:, select SMTP Authentication. Select Use receiving settings of account: and select your account from the drop down menu. Press OK
16. On the resulting page press the OK button at the bottom right of the page.
Congratulations. GyazMail is setup to receive email via IMAP.
