Keep your web apps up to date and close the door on hackers

Anytime you add an application to your website, such as a store, blog, bulletin board, email form, or any other dynamic page or web application, you could be adding functionality that a hacker can use to gain access to your data, and possibly do damage. MacHighway recommends that you frequently check for updates and use only trusted and well scripted applications, like the ones offered through MacHighway..

For detailed information on choosing a suitable script and checking for updates, please review our knowledgebase article here.

There are two ways to automatically install Gallery through your cPanel.  Through Simple Scripts, or QuickInstall.

SimpleScripts Instructions

1. Login to the cPanel for your hosting package, commonly found at http://www.yourdomainname.com/cpanel (yourdomainname.com should be replaced with your actual domain name)

2. Click on the Simple Scripts module under the Software/Services section.

3. Click on Gallery under the Photo Galleries section.

4. You will see a description of Gallery. Click the Install link just below the description.

5. On the resulting page, select the desired version of Gallery from the Which version of Gallery would you like to install? drop down menu (we strongly recommend the latest stable version) and select the domain name that you would like Gallery installed on from the Where would you like Gallery installed? drop down menu.

6. You have the option to specify what directory you would like Gallery installed in, which is the field after the domain name. If you want Gallery to be the first thing a visitor sees, leave the field empty. If you want Gallery to be installed in a sub-directory, type in the name of the directory into that field. (If the directory doesn't exist, Simple Scripts will create it for you)

7. Check the box to agree to the terms and conditions and then click the Complete button.

8. The resulting page will contain your new Gallery site URL, login URL, username and password (These can all be changed at any later time through the Gallery admin section).

Congratulations. You have installed Gallery on to your site.

To Uninstall: From the main page of SimpleScripts, at the top you will see a list of applications that you have installed through SimpleScripts. Below each items you will see a link that says "Uninstall." Click that link to uninstall Gallery from your site.

If you want Gallery to be the first thing a visitor sees, leave the field after the / empty. If you want Gallery to be installed in a sub-directory, type in the name of the directory into that field. (If the directory doesn't exist, QuickInstall will create it for you)

6. Next, fill in the Admin email field with a valid email address, name your site, then enter your full name as the owner.  Automatic updates should be set to yes, unless you would like to manually update Gallery upon a new release.

7. Click Install Now.

8. A link to visit your newly created Gallery site will be displayed on the resulting menu once the install has completed. Your admin login details will be emailed to the address you specified in step 6, which you will need in order to access the admin area of Gallery.

Congratulations. You have installed Gallery on to your site.

To Uninstall: From the main page of QuickInstall, Click the Manage Installations button. On the resulting page you will see a list of the applications that you have installed through QuickInstall.
