If you decide that you no longer need your Spam Quarantine service, there are a few steps that you need to preform before cancelling the service to ensure you do not lose any emails.
- Update your MX records
- Check your Spam Quarantine for quarantined mail
- Cancel your Spam Quarantine service
Update your MX records
The method Spam Quarantine uses to filter your mail is to redirect your mail to their server where it is processed and filtered, before it is forwarded to your mail server. This is done by updating your MX records to the Spam Quarantine MX records. If you cancel your service without updating your MX first, there may be some time where your mail will be directed to the wrong server.
If you are cancelling your service, you must update your MX records first for this reason. We recommend that you update your MX records at least 24 hours before cancelling your service. This will allow plenty of time for most DNS servers to update with the new records.
Depending on what mail service you are using and who is hosting your DNS, this process will be different.
If you are using our mail and DNS services, the process is as simple as accessing your Zone Editor and updating your MX records from there. Typically, your MX records will be as follows, where example.com is your domain name:
example.com. IN MX 1 mail.example.com
If you are using a third party for your DNS hosting, you will need to contact them to update your MX records. If you are not using our mail service, you will need to contact them to find out what the MX records should be for your domain.
Check your Spam Quarantine for quarantined mail
With your DNS updated and propagated, no new emails will be sent to the Spam Quarantine server to be filtered. However, you will want to check your quarantine one last time before cancelling your service, in case any important emails were caught in the filter.
Once you let your DNS propagate (typically 4-6 hours), log into your Spam Quarantine portal an check for any mail that needs to be pushed to your mailbox.
Go through your quarantine and ensure your legit mail is pushed to your mail server. Once you cancel your service, any remaining mail in your quarantine will be deleted.
Cancel your Spam Quarantine service
Once your MX records are updated and you can confirm that your mail is still functioning correctly, you can now request that your service be cancelled. Please submit a ticket to our Sales team form the main email address attached to the account and our team will cancel your service.
